When is the math STAAR test?
The first administration of the 5th Grade Mathematics STAAR for the 2019-2020 school year will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
How many questions are on the test?
There are 36 graded questions on the 5th Grade Mathematics STAAR. Three of the questions are griddable responses and the remaining 33 questions are multiple choice. There may be some additional field-test questions on the exam. However, these questions do not count toward a student's score.
How many questions does a student have to get correct to pass?
The number of questions a student has to get correct to pass the 5th Grade Mathematics STAAR varies from year to year. The State of Texas normally does not release the passing score each year until after the test has been administered.
When will students get their test results?
Typically, it takes about three weeks for schools to receive STAAR results.
What happens if a student does not pass the first administration of the test?
Students in fifth grade and eighth grade are required to pass the Mathematics STAAR and Reading STAAR to be promoted to the next grade level. If a student does not pass the first administration of one or both tests, they will receive additional instruction and retake the test(s) in May.
What happens if a student does not pass the second administration of the test?
If a student does not pass the second administration of the Mathematics STAAR and/or Reading STAAR, they will be required to attend summer school. The student will receive additional instruction during summer school and take the third administration of the test(s) at the end of June.
